This is the Greek god, Poseidon, ruler of the sea and earthquakes. (darkness84.deviantart.com)
Poseidon is the Greek god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses. Poseidon is able to control both salt and fresh water. There were separate gods that ruled over certain rivers, but he was considered more superior than those gods. His roman name was Neptune. He married a sea nymph named Amphitrite and was the father of Theseus and Polyhemus, which are cyclops. His symbol is a trident (www.mythweb.com).
Some interesting facts about Poseidon include that when Medusa refused to have an affair with him, he raped her at Athena's temple. Athena then punished Medusa by making her hair into snakes and subjecting anyone she looked at to turn into stone. After Perseus slayed her, it was discovered she was pregnant with Poseidon's child. This child was Pegasus (www.mythweb.com)
Another interesting fact about Poseidon, is when the Olympians over threw Kronos and the Titans, he drew lots with his brothers, Zues and Hades, for what realm they will rule. He got the sea. Lastly, he was known for having a short temper; therefore the Greek citizens made sure to appease him so they would not experience his wrath in the form of earthquakes or tidal waves. Poseidon's pop culture twin would probably be Sam Claflin. Sam played Finnick in the Hunger Games. He reminds me of Poseidon because he uses the trident (Poseidon's symbol and main weapon) as his main weapon in the Hunger Games. The song that fits Poseidon is The Wreak of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot. I believe this song fits because this song was based off a ship wreak in Lake Superior and Poseidon rules all the waters so I find that a interesting connection (www.swide.com)
